Brooklyn Heights

Brooklyn Heights is posh and magical at once. Every block of this cherished neighborhood has reminders of the city’s past and is as beautiful as the next, making it a prized place to live. Investors flocked to the area, considered NY’s first “suburb,” in the 1820s thanks to its closeness to downtown Manhattan by ferry. Between Cadman Plaza and the East River, and south to Atlantic Ave, row-houses and churches were built, and an elegant enclave emerged that remains intact to this day. As the first to be protected by NYC’s Landmarks Preservation Law, many blocks of 19th-century architecture have been preserved, with some modern buildings mixed in. Walt Whitman walked the streets; Thomas Wolfe lived on Montague Terrace; Arthur Miller resided at several addresses; and Bob Dylan memorialized Montague Street in song. Other highlights are the Promenade with stunning views of downtown Manhattan & NY Harbor, Brooklyn Bridge Park with its abundant outdoor activities, and quiet leafy streets near shops, restaurants, schools and transportation.
